3. Vowels (a,e,i,o,u,...y) appear in almost every word we read. Sort your word cards into two groups by looking at the vowels e and i in the words.
4. Print your list words from the table above in a column in your notebook. (see example) Read each word aloud and put your finger over the beginning sound. Think of a new sound that could go at the start of the word to make a real word. Beside each list word in your notebook, print a new rhyming word. 5. Read assigned online Raz -Kids story or a book of your choice. |
Day 2 Activities~ Adding Describing Words
You can use size (little), colours (purple), texture (bumpy), senses (stinky), feelings (happy) and many more types of words to add detail to your sentences. Today you are going to improve some sentences.
1. Have your child copy Mrs. Steinborn's simple sentences below into their notebook BUT wherever there is a "blank" they will insert into their writing one or two descriptive words instead of the blank.
(Examples- see image below.)
There is her _________ _________ bike.

As part of the lesson you will show your "Colour Hunt " item and then hold up your finished sentence in front of the camera for me to see.
3. ZOOM MEETING preparation
Zoom meeting is at 10:00 on Tuesday. Have a whiteboard or paper and appropriate felt pen ready to write the colour words Mrs. Steinborn says in a sentence like: I can see ____. or This is ______.
Find where your camera is (usually at the top of your monitor).
Look at the posters below.
The pictures will help you know what to do before and during the meeting.

Here is a small list of focus sight words that we have been working on since November.
me, mom, I, the, can, and,
to, he, my, look, we, is,
in, see, like, come, it, get, up, at
1. First have your child print this list on their notebook page in the top white space.
Please use commas to separate the words.
2. Next read the sight words aloud.
3. The children will create 3-5 interesting sentences making certain that at least 2 of the listed sight words are found within their creative writing. They will add other words to complete their sentences, using their phonetic knowledge to help them sound out words.
4. Before writing, I always ask the children what they need to keep in mind to create great sentences. So please remind them of the things to remember:
a) Always begin a sentence with an uppercase letter.
b) Always end each sentence with a "stop mark" (either a period, exclamation mark or a question mark).
c) Use describing words like: "There is a hungry wolf in the forest." instead of "There is a wolf."
or "He likes to have gooey Hawaiian pizza." instead of "He likes pizza."
5. Read assigned online Raz -Kids story or a book of your choice.
Day 4 Activities~ Sight Words

3. At different times during the school week I review sight words with the children.
We play an echo game like the video clips below (I say, you say).
Watch either of the videos to drill vocabulary words. (without the teacher!) Read them and echo back.

4. Follow along with the teacher's lesson on the video lesson below. This is similar to a guided lesson that I would do in class. Before you start the clip draw a large ten frame on your white board or paper and gather any 2 kinds of counters. Feel free to stop the video so you can participate on your own ten frame replicating what the teacher is showing.
5. Play online Splashlearn.com (class code YHJKCO) or do some of the math games in your sleeves from your learning packet that was sent home.
Day 2 Math Activities ~ Subtracting
1. Watch the Subtraction video below. When writing subtracting equations, remember to always print the number with the greatest value first and then subtract or take away the lesser number.
After watching the clip, roll 2 dice. Move the greatest number on the dice first and print that number in your book with a - sign then the other die's value next. Play this rolling game many times until you generate 15+ equations.

If you can try to skip count to a greater number than 30. Notice the pattern that forms.
A number is even if it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8
A number is odd if it ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9.
If time, skip count by 5s and then 10s to 50 first then try again until 100!
Use your hundred chart in your plastic sleeve to check your written work.

The game board image might give you a possible idea.
Make sure there is a "START" and "FINISH" square.
You can then use these fact cards repeatedly with the game board.

Day 5 Math Activities
1. How Many More?
There are math problems that sometimes require you to compare two sets of items or two numbers.
At times you can compare and draw lines to match to see which group has more.
**TIP- Whenever you hear in a story problem, "How many more?" you always subtract the lesser number from the greater number.
Use counters to compare items in the problem like the picture below.
Then write subtraction equations in your notebook for these:
a) Ted has 10 dogs. Mac has 5 dogs. How many more dogs does Ted have?
b) Cal has 7 cats. Ned has 6 cats. How many more cats does Cal have?
c) Pat has 8 bugs. Ann has 10 bugs. How many more bugs does Ann have?
d) Tim has 6 pop. Matt has 9 pop. How many more pop has Matt?
e) Bill has 7 toys. Bob has 11 toys. How many more toys does Bob have?
